Three Great Games To Play In Your Golf League

Blog

Golf leagues -- whether they are a group of buddies on the weekend, a few moms who get together and play when their kids are in school, or juniors learning to enjoy the game -- are all about fun. And to spice up golf league play, there are several types of games that you can play in addition to lowest score or closest to the pin. Here are three that can keep your crew more involved in their next outing:

1. Bingo Bango Bongo

This is a classic league game, and tons of fun if you've not yet played it. In Bingo Bango Bongo, there are three points available on each hole, for each group.

  • Point 1: Bingo is earned by the player who hits the green first.
  • Point 2: Bango is earned by the player who is closest to the hole after everyone is on the green.
  • Point 3: Bongo goes to the player who holes out first.

Be sure to mention at the outset of the game that everyone must play in order -- the person farthest from the hole goes first. That makes it more fair.

You can award the player with the most points in each group a special prize, or compare the point totals for all players to determine the winner. It's a good game for mixed groups because lower and higher handicap players all have the ability to get points.

2. Money Ball

Sometimes called devil ball, this game is best suited for foursomes that are relatively equal in skill level. One player has the money ball to start, and his or her score automatically is added to the player with the lowest score on the hole. Players take turns being the one to play the "money ball."

This game puts a lot of pressure on the designated player to come through for the team. If he or she has a bad hole, that can knock the team out of competition with the other foursomes.

You can play some variations on this game; for example, everyone keeps their own score as part of league play and then the money ball scores are added to give a group score. The lowest group wins.

3. Strike Three

This is a game designed primarily for higher handicap or beginning players, since these types of players are likely to have a few really bad holes that can impact the whole round. Your group chooses whether to play nine or 18 holes, then everyone throws out the scores for his or her worst three holes. The lowest remaining six- or 15-hole score is the winner.

This is great because you can play it with a few or a lot of people and it gets newer or less-skilled players involved and continuing to try hard even if they've had a blow up on a couple of holes.

There are hundreds of games you can apply to your league golf competition. These should give you some ideas for getting started. To learn more, contact a company like Beaver Creek Golf Course with any questions or concerns you have.

Outdoor Summer Parties

My husband and I enjoy all sorts of sports. We regularly watch our favorite football, baseball, and basketball teams on television. Whenever the weather gets warm outside, we also like to play a little baseball in our backyard. Because we are planning an extensive home renovation project, I plan to invite more people to our home in the future. I’m looking forward to hosting fun outdoor parties. At these parties, I hope to participate in a variety of sports with my friends and family members. One sport I definitely want to play is volleyball. However, we will need to purchase a volleyball net first. On this blog, you will discover the types of sports equipment you will need to host fun, competitive outdoor parties during the summer months.
