Selecting A Cycling Jersey To Suit Outside Temperatures

Blog

Enjoying a bicycle ride is dependent on proper mechanical maintenance, but it is also greatly enhanced by wearing the proper clothing. Winter and summer conditions are obviously different, and air temperatures can vary widely on any given day. Bicycle enthusiasts at any skill level can enhance the quality of each ride by selecting a jersey appropriate for that particular day.

Riding in warmer months

Many cycling jerseys are made of a synthetic polyester material. Also known as lycra or spandex, the jersey construction is thin and highly elastic. The material is effective in wicking away sweat from your skin as you ride. In hot weather, the synthetic polyester is more practical than cotton.

A snug fit aids in minimizing wind resistance, but jerseys are also available in looser fits to suit the individual preferences of commuters and recreational cyclists. Jerseys are usually cut longer in the back to accommodate a hunched-over riding position and to remain securely tucked into bicycle shorts.

The are replica jerseys available that are nearly identical to those worn by various European racing teams throughout the years. A wide array of other designs are available to suit any personal taste. Bright colors and bold designs likely add an element of safety as the jerseys are easily seen. The thin polyester material also dries very quickly after washing.

Riding in cooler months

Every winter has a few exceptional days when temperatures are warm enough to take an afternoon bike ride. Long-sleeved cotton jerseys are practical on cooler days to keep you comfortable for the duration of your ride. Wool jerseys are also available in similar styles.

A detachable arm warmer is a useful accessory that allows you to begin a ride during cooler temperatures and then remove the added sleeves when desired. The effect of a cold breeze is also minimized by the use of a neck warmer. Somewhat similar to a turtleneck dickey, a neck warmer is slipped onto your neck before you put on your helmet.

Many cycling jerseys have pockets on the back side. Professional riders place food items in the pockets during long race stages. Recreational cyclists are also likely to use the pockets for items such as a cellphone or a wallet.

Your selection of which specific jersey to wear will vary as temperatures change throughout the year. Jerseys are more than just practical accommodations to suit the weather. They are also a reflection of your riding commitment. For jersey advice and fitting, contact a bicycle shop like Sarasota Cyclery Inc whose staff shares your enthusiasm for cycling.

Outdoor Summer Parties

My husband and I enjoy all sorts of sports. We regularly watch our favorite football, baseball, and basketball teams on television. Whenever the weather gets warm outside, we also like to play a little baseball in our backyard. Because we are planning an extensive home renovation project, I plan to invite more people to our home in the future. I’m looking forward to hosting fun outdoor parties. At these parties, I hope to participate in a variety of sports with my friends and family members. One sport I definitely want to play is volleyball. However, we will need to purchase a volleyball net first. On this blog, you will discover the types of sports equipment you will need to host fun, competitive outdoor parties during the summer months.
