The Biggest Mistakes To Avoid To Properly Preserve Your Prized Trophy Collection

Blog

Whether you were a huge sports star in high school or you have a full line of trophies and awards from your career, each piece is a reminder of an accomplishment that you will want to remember and show off for the long haul. People commonly disregard the importance of proper care of their trophies and see their shiny appearance compromised because of it. If you have a trophy collection that you want to display for years to come, there are a few big mistakes you should avoid to make sure you don't hinder their appearance.

Mistake: Not taking the trophy material into consideration when cleaning.

Why? Trophies come in many forms, from marble and sterling silver to brass and plastic. There is no one-for-all cleaning solution for trophies because of the fact they can be made out of a myriad of different materials. It is crucial to keep this in mind while you are cleaning your trophy collection because one cleaning agent may not be good for some surfaces. For example, some store bought cleaners may break down the surface of marble or granite bases because they contain acids or alkalis that will make the bases easier to stain. Therefore, it is best to only use a wet sponge to gently buff away dirt and dust.

Mistake: Using an abrasive scrubber to removed heavy stains from a trophy.

Why? Someone spilled coffee without you noticing or one of your kids decided your trophy needed a sticker and now your prized trophy has a big ugly and sticky stain. Before you reach for the scrub brush or scouring pad to remove the sticky residue, keep in mind that some trophy materials are easy to scratch. Instead of an abrasive scrubber, always clean your trophies with a soft cotton cloth. If there is a hard-to-remove stain, try rubbing alcohol to soak off any residue and then clean the surface with a gentle soap and water.

Mistake: Foregoing silver or brass polish.

Why? You may think that taking the time to polish silver or brass trophies is not that necessary. However, it is always best to keep your trophies polished and shiny and not just for aesthetic purposes. The polishes used to keep the brass and silver shining also acts as a layer of protectant that can ward off small scratches and blemishes. Therefore, it is a good idea to polish those trophies on your display shelf to a nice shine on occasion.

Outdoor Summer Parties

My husband and I enjoy all sorts of sports. We regularly watch our favorite football, baseball, and basketball teams on television. Whenever the weather gets warm outside, we also like to play a little baseball in our backyard. Because we are planning an extensive home renovation project, I plan to invite more people to our home in the future. I’m looking forward to hosting fun outdoor parties. At these parties, I hope to participate in a variety of sports with my friends and family members. One sport I definitely want to play is volleyball. However, we will need to purchase a volleyball net first. On this blog, you will discover the types of sports equipment you will need to host fun, competitive outdoor parties during the summer months.
